Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to send my child to Kids Build during Covid times?

That’s a fair question and only you can be the judge of what feels right in today’s world. We can only inform you that we follow CDC guidelines and take safety very seriously. Classes are small, typically less than 15 kids. We social distance as best as possible but we do work in teams and share tools. Sanitizing our workspace and tools after each workshop is routine for us. Hand washing and hand sanitizing are readily available to the kids while building. We ask that if you or your child don’t feel well prior to class, please don’t join us for the day. We’ll reschedule. Let’s stay safe.

COVID protocols are sent out to each family upon registration.

My child is almost 4 years old and loves using tools. Can they join your program?

We think it's awesome that your kiddo has been introduced to tools at an early age and enjoys it! While we don't have too many rules at KIDS BUILD, we do require our participants to be at least 4 yrs old. We've found across the board that kids this age are more independent, able to follow directions, hang with older kids, and walk away with a positive build experience.

Your program says "drop-off". Can parents stay if they wish?

In our experience, kids have more fun and work to their best ability when they're on their own, building with friends and figuring things out for themselves. So if you know your child isn't ready to separate from you, this is not the class for them. However, if you think your child will do well at KIDS BUILD but needs a few minutes to settle in, we understand.

I like the idea of my child using real tools but is it safe?

Safety is our #1 priority and we take it very seriously. We believe respect for each other and respect for our tools are the foundation for a positive building experience. Before we get hammering, we talk about different types of tools, what they're used for, how they work, how to carry them, and how to properly use them. Don't be surprised if your kiddo corrects you the next time you put up a shelf.

What's the instructor to student ratio for your program?

Depending on class size and project, we typically have a 1:6 instructor to child ratio.

I reserved and paid for my child to attend Kids Build but now I have a conflict that day. What happens now?

If you let us know 24 hours in advance, we will roll your credit into the next KIDS BUILD (or the one after that). You can use your credit for any child you want to send to our program.

My child would like to repeat a class but I'd rather they do something new. Any thoughts?

Many parents have asked us this and we've found that kids who have repeated projects with us walk away feeling confident, accomplished, and really good about themselves. There's always something new to discover when building or taking apart and part of the excitement is figuring that out with friends. For those who are repeating projects, we make sure to make that build day just as exciting as the first time.

I have older kids and they would love KIDS BUILD! Do you have a program for kids 14 years old and up?

It's in the works! Teenagers are of that prime age for grasping spacial relationships, advanced cognitive problem-solving, and playing with geometry and physics in world-changing ways . . . Join our mailing list, let us know who you are, and you'll be the first to hear about workshops for older kids.

Do you have classes in other locations?

While we aren’t officially in other locations, we do private pods and parties all around Los Angeles and in the desert. If you have ideas for a space to hold a building workshop, please be in touch! And if you want to create your own class, drop us a note, let’s make it happen!

I wish I could do KIDS BUILD. Do you ever have classes for adults?
